A big day, the ground floor slab is poured today with over 60 cubic metres of concrete. Looking forward to seeing the frame and walls go up now.

I was recently asked by Tamsin and Tom from Green Magazine to give brief talk about colour, not something I necessarily felt expert to talk about but it was an interesting idea to consider how we use colour in architecture and why. In particular I reflected on when we see colour especially when travelling to new places and how it can be associated with landscape or culture. Technology too has had a bearing on the production and use, of course now we are able to use almost any colour imaginable. Which still leaves us with the dilemma of making that right choice.

This idea came about with my young son Sam, who loved drawing and painting. We only had a single living space so we wanted something that could open up like a pandora’s box to get all the paint stuff out and then neatly put away – or more precisely roll away as we also used castor wheels to allow it to be more easily moved around the room or even outside. The tilt up door also serves as a work desk so all you need to do is pull up a chair and paint away.
